    I realize this video is 5 years old. But for anyone watching, the up and down wiggle is in part due to running the knife in an ultrasonic cleaner with the blade in the fully opened position. It creates wear due to the friction between the blade and the lock bar. Anyone with actual training for the proper use of an ultrasonic cleaner knows you do not run a hinged instrument in its fully opened or fully closed position for that very reason. And especially not locked open. But hey...it's your Buck knife. You do with it as you want.

    I had a 112 once that opened smoothly and the blade about halfway on closing would throw into the handle with strong snap. It was striking that steel spacer and rolling the edge. What causes this is if your blade isn't riveted tight enough. But then again, a tightly riveted blade means stiff opening and also draws complaints.

    Is the LT knife in this video a 1.25? It's beautiful. Also what do you know about the "hunter" designation? Is that different than a standard bravo1? Does that mean that they have the more drop point? What does hunter mean?

    • @gravytrainoutdoors
      @gravytrainoutdoors 2 месяца назад

      Yeah the LT is a 1.25. The hunter versions have a more significant drop point and no thumb ramp or jumping. I have a bravo 1 field version which has a drop point and no thumb ramp but it does have jumping. You can turn any bravo knife into a Hunter version by taking that ramp off and dropping the point

    • @darken8649
      @darken8649 2 месяца назад

      @@gravytrainoutdoors thank you so much for responding. I've always wondered the terminology, because on some sites I would see a ramp less bravo 1 with a drop point, for example, but sometimes I would just see the word "hunter" but they wouldn't use those other key words. Thanks for clearing this up. My goal is to get a bravo 1 Lt hunter with a PSK as it's companion knife. I don't plan on collecting so I just wanted to keep my purchase to two knives. I hunt and do even more bushcraft backpacking trips. I like the LT because it's a little thinner for say camp task and cooking/food prep and such. But do you think it's thick enough to baton and make an okay survival knife? Thick enough to bet your life on In survival situations? Or should I go with the stock thickness bravo 1 and just use the PSK for all the smaller stuff? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Oh and thanks again I love your channel! • @gravytrainoutdoors
      @gravytrainoutdoors 2 месяца назад

      @@darken8649 I appreciate your feedback! I would lean towards the LT version. You can safely baton with a thin knife if you use proper technique. Food prep is much easier with the LT version and it still splits wood well. If the extra length of the 1.25 vs the 1 is not a big deal for you then I would strongly recommend looking at the 1.25. It’s just right for me and it seems like most people are finding the 1.25 to be the sweet spot for blade length.

      @@gravytrainoutdoors Thank you! I have indeed been thinking about the 1.25! I am used to a knife the size of a Fallkniven F1, so that's why I was thinking about the bravo 1 but since it will have a piggyback or companion knife with it (the PSK) I think going a tad bigger would cover more bases. I really love the survival aspect of the full thickness because after all when it comes down to it in a survival situation I want a knife you can definitely depend your life on, so I always figured I'd need a much thicker blade than the LT for survival applications. But virtuovice seems to think the LT bravos make a better survival knife than even the standard stock thick bravo 1. Do you share this opinion? Also have you ever had to sharpen any of your bravos in the field? I carry a Fallkniven dc 4 do you think that would work on the BRK knives?

      Stress risers are the sharp corners that aren’t rounded to diffuse the stress. Hey Gravy, Marty here. We've conversed before. ... A bit off topic, but here goes. I know you're a big fan of the Spyderco Stretch series, as am I. The Stretch 2XL Cruwear and gray G10 is simply a fabulous knife IMO. ... i watched a vid with Eric Glesser at a show, discussing new versions of the Military 2 compression lock. Eric said thst Sal insisted upon making one with canvas micarta scales. Eric said micarta is not stiff enough to design them the same way they do with G10, using nested partial SS liners. Consequently, they recently released a version in Cruwear, brown canvas micarta with full, skeletonized SS liners that are not nested. ... I purchased one as the Military model has always been a favorite of mine. It's still breaking in, but I'm really liking it. It's a bit heftier than other Militarys, due to the full liners. Probably a bit thicker too. It's a rock solid gem. The blade is very similar to the Stretch 2XL, but with slightly less belly and a bit pointier, as the Stretch 2XL was designed as a hunter and the Military 2 as more tactical. ... Spyderco also has a Para 3 out with the same steel, canvas micarta and full liners. ... I'd love to get your opinion of this canvas micarta version of the Military 2, knowing your preference for a solid backed knife like the Stretch 2XL. ... Stay frosty my friend. I have the pm2 in Cruwear that has the natural canvas micarta scales. I quite like them. At first they are a bit rough but soon smooth out and start to take a nice patina. It adds a layer of character you don’t get with the g10 scales. I’ve been carrying this 15v daily since I bought it. Normally I’ll carry a knife until it’s ready to sharpen and then I’ll switch it up but this 15v is insane. It’s finally starting to dull a bit and I’ve done so much cutting with it that it boggles my mind. I’ll be swapping back to the Cruwear version for the next bit I think. I’d really like to get my hands on a stretch 2 XL soon. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

    In the past, Cold Steel was infamous for their terrible sheaths that would dull blades. Consequently, I've had to go with after-market Kydex. Any opinion on this sheath?

      Still the same old sheath they are famous for. The knife also fits perfectly in a Bark River sheath that comes with the Teddy 2 if you like a leather sheath.

      I have no complaints with this one. I won’t truly know until I sharpen it but so far it’s holding an edge as well as any other 3v blade I have. I’ve used it a fair bit doing woodwork and fooling around chopping with it and it’s performed as expected.

    I use Brasso to clean the brass on my knife. It takes a lot less time and it does a great job on making it shine and can even remove slight scratches. My pivot pins have never came lose

      I’ve used brasso lots, works great as well. The ultrasonic cleaner works really well for getting all the grit and grime out from deep inside the handle and pivot. Have you ever used neverdull polishing wool? It works really well also.

    I'd love to see this made in 3V.

      That would be awesome to see! Don’t shy away from away from A2 though. I prefer it to 3v in some ways. It’s very easy to maintain the edge and is plenty tough enough
